At first, only folk musicians played the pan flute, but eventually, it gained wider popularity. Shepherds played it to pass the time in their flocks. They had no specific tunes to go to, so they just played whatever sounded good to them. Those two groups of people were known to play, and it is possible, not definitive, that pan flutes were used in theater. Eventually, the pan flute spread to other areas, such as Europe and China. The Incans also came up with a pan-flute type instrument, yet they were not influenced by the Greeks. In conclusion, pan flutes were an influential part of Greek history.
