the earthquake struck at 3:45pm on a Tuesday the 9th of August and the year was 1984. There was a devastating effect and it was a magnitude 8.3! That's really high. The country was on a conservative plate boundary and half the country's population was aged under 18. As I said already, the effects were devastating and 100s of 1000s died in result. This was a very sad time - we mourn for them. RIP
