They are still technology because they make life simpler, scales make it easier to whey things and thermometers help measure temperature. Computers have advanced a lot from the first mechanical computer built by Charles Babbage. The hardware has gotten smaller to fit inside phones. There is now artificial intelligence or AI and the software is less clunky. But back in 1968 when 2001 a space odyssey came out, the creators ideas of technology like HAL 9000 and the picture phone were very close to today's tech. Another big advancement is video games are usually only software and also have gotten better in graphics and are more fun to play than the original video games like pong and space invaders.
